Greendale, WI was one of three "Greenbelt" new towns built by the federal government under Roosevelt's New Deal. In design, it stands in stark contrast to the rest of Milwaukee's suburbs with a clear village center and a mix of housing types, pedestrian paths, and a uniform design. However, with a lack of transit and mixed uses, it now blends into the rest of Milwaukee's suburbs.
