Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe
The Basilica de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe, a massive religious complex, is the end point of many pilgrimages from all over Mexico. It houses the cloak of Juan Diego, an Aztec who saw the Virgin Mary in the 1500s and was told to tell the bishop to construct a church on that spot. There is an older church, which has undergone structural retrofitting, and a much newer and larger church built to handle the modern crowds. Multiple moving walkways will usher visitors quickly past the sacred cloak. The nearby stores vend all types of religious paraphernalia.
