The Victor Emmanuel II Monument, commonly referred to as II Vittoriano, was built between 1885 and 1911 to commemorate the leader who unified Italy. Medieval churches and roman ruins were removed and destroyed to build this monument, which makes it less than popular. The view from the monument is impressive as is the traffic circle in front of it.
