Pointe du Hoc, Normandy

Pointe du Hoc is the site of the World War II Ranger assault on the German fortifications. The steep cliffs made the assault dangerous. It turned out that the artillery had been removed from the fortifications and hidden inland. The Rangers located the guns and destroyed them.
