Commissioned by Fredrich Wilhelm II to promote peace, it was used by the Nazis as a symbol of power, later incorporated into the Berlin Wall and is now a symbol of reunification of Germany. The statue on top, the Quadriga, was stolen by Napoleon in 1806 and later returned.
